The Library According to Mary

This blog is about my experiences in the Educational Technology Ed.D program at the University of Florida. Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments. My interests include the intersection of libraries, education, and technology and their effect on distance education. I'm also exploring the concept of multiple literacies, including how media, visual, and information literacy relate and the implications for libraries.

Thievery and Webpages

I really shouldn't make my first post of the new year a negative commentary on the sad state of our culture and the "get something for nothing" value of some of our citizens, but it can't be helped. I'll be in a more positive mindframe for my next post (hopefully).

My relatively new laptop (purchased in July) was stolen on Friday December 22nd. While my husband and I were hard at work at our respective jobs, some unknown, dishonest thieves broke our bathroom window, broke in to our house and took off with my laptop and the family video camera. While I'm thankful that we weren't home while this happened, no one was physically hurt, and they didn't totally clean us out...I"m still royally pissed that my computer, my late night school work friend, was wrongfully taken. Not to mention the fact that the recording of my daughter's ballet class was in the camera when they took it!

I'm still slightly upset and bitter about the whole ordeal and in the process of replacing my computer. I realized the other day that I never uploaded my webpage files and they were on my harddrive...so now not only am I out a computer, but I get to redo many hours of work on webpages and graphics. With classes starting next week, it'll probably be a while before I get my site up. I still need to get over some of my anger before I can bring myself to sit down and start over. I'll keep posting during the semester and when the pages are ready, I'll post the link.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest I've been negative enough for one afternoon, I'll wish everyone a Happy New Year and sign off.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your laptop and camera, Mary! And you lost your new website...I can certainly understand your anger, I'd feel the same way.

Let me know if there is anything I can do help you get your website material put back together and posted online. I hope the rest of your holiday and this new year turn out better for you!
